About Hilliard, Ohio

Hilliard is a city located in Franklin County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 28,435, making it the 27th largest city in the state. The city is home to Hilliard Davidson High School, whose sports teams are known as the Wildcats.

The land that would become Hilliard was purchased from the federal government on April 30, 1853, by Daniel and Jacob Haymaker. The brothers laid out the village of Hilliardville that same year. The name “Hilliard” is believed to have been chosen by one of the Haymakers after a man named A. L. Hilliard, who was at the time serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The village of Hilliardville was incorporated as the city of Hilliard on February 15, 1860. The first mayor of the city was Daniel Haymaker. In the early years, Hilliard was a farming community but slowly began to grow as a suburb of Columbus after the arrival of the railroad in 1873. The city continued to grow rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s, with the construction of new residential developments and a new high school.

About Beer Bread

Beer bread is a type of quick bread that is made with a bottle of beer as one of its main ingredients. The history of beer bread is believed to date back 7000 years when people would add beer to their dough in order to make it rise.

What Is The Best Beer To Use For Beer Bread?

sweet sugar beer bread

There are a few different types of beer that can be used in beer bread, but the best results come from using a light-bodied lager. The maltiness of the beer helps to add flavor and body to the bread, while the lightness of the lager prevents the bread from becoming too dense. Other types of beer can be used, but they may not provide the same results. darker beers can make the bread too dense, while lighter beers may not add enough flavor. Experiment with different types of beer to find the one that you like best. You can even use soda or sparkling water. The beer bread comes out delicious and buttery.

How did you come up with your business name? My name is Mat spelled with one T!

What got you started doing this? When our son was just born, my wife wanted beer bread a LOT. I started packing up the dry ingredients in Ziploc bags so I didn’t have to get everything out every night for dinner. My best friend came to dinner one day and saw me bake a loaf of bread with a bag from the pantry and a beer and we realized I had a business idea.

What is your creative process like? I try to develop new mix flavors to fit a few purposes. I like to pair new mixes with seasonal beers or with specific beers from local breweries. I start with a general flavor idea and bake lots and lots of test breads until I’m happy with the flavor.

Great Base Recipe

A standard homemade beer bread recipe typically only has 6 ingredients:

3 cups Flour (sifted)
3 teaspoons baking powder(omit if using self-rising flour)
1 teaspoon salt (omit if using self-rising flour)
1/4 cup sugar
12 oz beer
1/2 cup melted butter

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl mix together the dry ingredients and stir in the beer.
Grease your loaf pan and pour the mixture in.
Pour melted butter over the top of the batter.
Bake for 1 hour, then remove from the oven and let the bread cool for 15 minutes.
Once you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean you know your bread is finished.

You can add shredded cheese (best is cheddar) to the batter for more flavor.

Store this bread at room temperature in an airtight container.
